finally managed to transfer all the photos to my laptop - the northern lights were spectacular last night!
the pictures are a little brighter than what the naked eye would allow, but it was still stunning even with the light pollution nearby

Idk why but I can imagine Vasco and machete looking at the stars together since there was probably not a lot of light pollution in their time than there is nowadays so the stars were probably wayyy more visible

headcanon that people of the islands sleep schedule is like, four hours later than average.
they wake up at mid day, and sleep well past midnight. kids begging their parents on weekends to pleeaaase please let them step up just a little longer to watch the sun rise. early-riser visitors / tourists having to adapt to their horrid schedule because stars forbid theyre up and about at 10:30.

I, once again, cannot see the aurora from where I live, tho people at similar lattitudes are seeing it tonight and I am, once again, midly upsetti about it.

Laying down under the stars for even a short amount of time will make me philosophical
Just watching them is making me sad that I won't get to see the future, as in centuries and millennias later, to see what it looks like. That I won't get to see what's out there in the enormity of space and will never get to travel amongst the stars. The want to get to know the unknown, the want to explore is sometimes overwhelming you know?
But what brings me even more comfort and relief is to know that I won't have to mourn the time we now call present, won't have to be sad to see it gone, because I will be gone with it? Curiosity be damned, this time is my home and I love it with all its ugly and its beauty.
When I was little, Stanislaw Lem's novel Return from the Stars made an enormous impression on me. And looking back now, I feel that book is close to my heart on a very different level... Back then, I couldn't understand why he wouldn't leave the Earth again for the promise of the stars. Now I get it.

I'd like to be more informed on changing local infrastructure, especially regarding pedestrian safety and tree law, but I don't know where to start.
The crosswalks in this city are absurdly ill-planned death traps. Three houses in the same block within the same year got their roofs caved in by old, overgrown trees.
I'm pretty sure these are like. The ur-example of efforts an individual could partake in to make the world just the tiniest bit better. At the same time, I feel these are issues worth being educated on first
